Air Tightness Testing

It is now mandatory under the Building Regulations to test new dwellings for air tightness. Air tightness is also described as air permeability or air leakage. Air leakage significantly effects a building's energy performance.

The Building Regulations set a performance level of 10m³/(hr/m²) as representing a reasonable upper limit for air permeability. This is the equivalent of one air change every two hours and in practice, a much better performance level may be desirable.

Air tightness is calculated with a blower door test and must be undertaken by a competent person. Heat $aver$employs only trained consultants and uses calibrated equipment to undertake these tests.

Infrared Imaging

This is a technique that uses an infrared camera to detect and measure invisible infrared energy being emitted from an object. During building surveys infared imaging is used to detect missing and defective insulation, thermal bridges and air leakage paths in the external envelope of the building. It is also used to detect moisture and condensation damage as well as electrical faults and burst water pipes.

It is a solution that is predictive, cost effective and the least intrusive of all building diagnostic procedures. Regardless of the building type involved, infrared imaging can provide remarkable information about construction details and building performance.

Heat $aver$consultants are trained in the science of infared technology and its application to building inspections. We use the latest, state of the art infrared cameras to carry out these inspections. It is often most cost effective when used in conjunction with a blower door test.

Building Specification Improvement Reports

Heat $aver$ offers developers and builders advice at the planning stage to optimise the energy efficiency of their designs and specifications.

Home Energy Audits

A Home Energy Audit undertaken by Heat $aver$ will identify the steps you will need to take in order to improve the energy efficiency of your home. The results of the audit are presented in a clearly worded and easily understood report that can be used as a basis for planning your improvements and reducing your energy bills!
